The Articles and Teaching portion of the CHRISTCENTIC website is dedicated to providing theological and doctrinal materials that will aide in equipping, grounding, and challenging you in a thoroughly historical and biblical understanding of the Christian faith.
Our purpose in providing these resources is rooted in Paul’s instruction to Timothy: “Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.” (1 Tim 4:16 NIV)
Timothy was exhorted to pay careful attention to his life (how he lived) and doctrine (what he believed and taught) and be consistent in them because both had temporal and eternal consequences. And the consequences wouldn’t just affect him, but also those whom he ministered to. The negative implication is clear, and is expressed well by Pastor John MacArthur: “In one way or another, wrong living always stems from wrong belief.” To take his thought further, wrong living and belief is a result of wrong doctrine and – according to 1 Tim 4:16 – has eternally dreadful results. Don’t think this passage is only for pastors, preachers, and ministers – the exhortation and implications are a reality for everybody.
Therefore, the positive implication is even clearer: It is of the utmost importance that your life be rooted in authentic biblical doctrine. (And this is even more critical in the very complex and often confusing times that we currently live in.) The result of a life rooted in thoroughly biblical teaching – one that will “save both yourself and your hearers.” In other words, a powerful and effective godly life that in everyway points to Christ!
Question: Are you watching your life and doctrine closely? Are you a diligent student and an effective doer of the word of God? No matter how you answer – we pray that you will utilize these resources to help you establish a Christian life and doctrine that is authentically and thoroughly biblical – that is – a life rooted in “the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.” (Jude 3 ESV)
